What does Arnold Junior learn in the end of the novel?
Arnold Junior
Arnold Junior
I think Junior realizes that ultimately all people have problems regardless of race. Identity is as much a state of mind as it is affected by external forces. He also learns that some white people are his friends as much as some Indians are his friends: race is not the deciding factor to if a person is nice. Junior eventually discovers that he does not have to mold himself into a preconceived notion of what an Indian or a white kid is supposed to be like. Many share his struggle, he realizes, and thinks to himself, "I might be a lonely Indian boy, but I [am] not alone in my loneliness" (217).
