What is the impact of the author’s word choice on meaning or tone in chapters 7-9

I think much of the tone has to do with change, anger, and fear. Junior is going to the white school in Rearden. Rowdy is crushed which of course turns to anger. Junior is scared: a fish out of water. Change certainly shapes these chapters.
