Jim is Huck's mentor and a father figure. Through Jim, Huck learns true compassion and becomes aware of how father/ child relationships should be. Jim loves Huck, looks out for him, and would sacrifice himself to protect him.... Huck feels the same way. In essence, I'd say he is fatherly to say the least.
