Jim often laments about missing his wife and children. He is away from them but would certainly rather be with them. Jim is kind and truly loves his family. He wants to provide for them and worries about their well-being. Pap, on the other hand, is a drunken sod. He has abandoned Huck and only shows up because he has heard about Huck's reward money. He is abusive to Huck and, unlike Jim, really would rather be on his own drinking himself into a coma.
