Jim decides to run away from miss Watson because

Jim ran away from Miss Watson because he overheard her talking about selling him. Jim had no wish to be sold "down" the river to another plantation, and he didn't want to be separated from his family. There was also a fear of how he'd be treated by cruel masters............ so he ran away!
