What clues to the nature of huck's past life exist in his reaction to life at the widows?

Huck's life with the widow is uncomfortable for him. The Widow was determined to make Huck into an upstanding young boy. Huck was expected to wash, comb his hair, learn to read, refrain from cussing......Huck complains about these new constraints. We can surmise Huck's past as being free. Huck could do as he wished. He was dressed in rags and could cuss freely. He was also unsure where his next meal was going to come from. We are first introduced to Huck in the book Tom Sawyer. Twain, however, gives us a pretty good account of Huck's past in the beginning of Huckleberry Finn through his life with the widow.
