Why does Huck decide to tell the truth to Mary Jane? Is this a change for Huck?

Huck wants to console Mary Jane. Huck is beginning to mature more. He sees how much damage that the King and Duke have caused and doesn't want to be a part of their shenanigans anymore. Huck sees there are more important things than scams and cheating people.
