How did the boys take revenge on Mr. Dobbins? What was the occasion?

The boys suspend a cat from from above and lower it over Mr. Dobbins' head. The cat is gagged, and in its panic proceed to claw and Dobbins head, pulling off his wig. The occasion is "Examination Day".
