Tom Sawyer says it....
Suddenly there was a flash of light and Tom came tearing by him: “Run!” said he; “run, for your life!”
The reason.... Tom was creeping about the tavern looking for the Spaniard. Tom didn't find the Spaniard, but he did just miss stepping on Injun Joe's hand.
