The thing I liked best about Tom Sawyer is his sense of playfulness and adventure. Money and possessions do not appeal to him. He lives for the moment. Weather he is playing pirates in the forest or Robin Hood (he preferred the bad guys) Tom is a person happy at play, “they would rather be outlaws a year in Sherwood Forest than President of the United States forever.” I also like Tom's internal value system. Although he rejects many of the formal lessons that he is taught in church or by Aunt Polly, Tom has a good sense of right and wrong. Even when he is being sneaky (the whole fence painting con-job) he is never malicious. Tom even does the thing for Muff Potter despite being scared of Injun Joe's retribution.

My last sentence should have been "Tom even does the right thing for Muff Potter despite being scared of Injun Joe's retribution."
