Do you think Mark Twain is excusing behavior in Tom that others would find irresponsible or annoying? Does Mark Twain disapprove of Tome? Why might the author be so forgiving of Tom's behavior?

I think that we must consider the era that this was written in. Twain is forgiving of Tom because he has boyish traits that, although mischievous, are not malicious. Tom becomes a more sympathetic protagonist through his creative mischief.
