In Chapter Three, we see Edna become increasingly self-absorbed. She has no interest in her husband or children, and she is inexplicably bored. Edna was not onw of the "women who idolized their children, worshiped their husbands, and esteemed it as holy privilege to efface themselves as individuals and grow wings as ministering angels."
