explain the irony of taylors statement that " turtles main goal in life...seemed to be to pass unoticed"

This description is of Turtle before she begins to break out of her "shell". Turtle soon begins to thrive. Ironically what Turtle did need was to be noticed and loved. She was withdrawn because of her abusive past.
