No, he does not. In reading the novel, we can ascertain that Hawthorne, from his own personal experience, never meant for Coverdale's time at Blithedale to be successful. In my own opinion, Coverdale is too consumed by the people he shares his life with in Blitheville to embrace the concept as it is meant to be embraced. He was too opinionated, unbending, and at times..... judgmental.
