One of the things I love....... that my students can't stand is Zusak's use of bold type. He uses this style to make an announcement, but I see it like a newspaper headline, and I admit that the first few times I used the novel....... I'd hop ahead to see what was going on. The bold type draws the eye, and it acts as a spoiler. In my experience, students either like it or hate it.
