How is the novel bildungsroman or coming of age story?

Liesel basically comes of age throughout the novel. She goes from an illiterate young girl to a self-aware articulate young adult. Liesel goes through the storm and changes of adolescence all amidst the backdrop of WW2. Liesel learns abour empathy, love, boys, life and death.
