In part 10 of The Book Thief, why is Hans given the job of telling Frau Holtzafpel about Michael's death?

We aren'y told exactly why Hans was asked to give her the news, only that he was asked. We can infer that he was chosen based upon his compassion for his neighbors and his innate goodness.
