No there isn't really. Rudy loves Liesel but Liesel doesn't reciprocate until it is too late. There is a deep bond between Max and Liesel but Zusak seems careful not to let it go beyond the platonic.

It's weird because as I was reading the book I felt like there was something going on between her and Max and in the very beginning I though there was something going on with her and Hans. But I don't think there was actually anything there.
