How do the books Liesel stole affect the novel as a whole?

Leisel views and opininons of the world are taken almost directly from some of the books she reads. Her personality is developed from these books. Also, stealing the books and learning to read is a direct form/act of rebellion in itself. Teaching Leisel to be her own person and not conform to the patterns of the world or society around her.
