Max lives in a dark place. How does he bring light to Himmel Street?

Max lives in the Huberman's basement yet he has a fight in him that inspires. Max certainly brings light into Liesel's life. Max makes two books for Liesel, both of which involve thinly-veiled allegories about their friendship and Nazi Germany: an illustrated story called "The Standover Man," and a long book of sketches that includes the short story "The Word Shaker." The words and art certainly bring a sense of hope, energy and courage to all.
