Rosa is harsh and abrupt, she uses "ugly" language and doesn't always treat those she loves with gentleness or respect. None-the-less, she is beautiful in her mothering. She cares for and protects her husband and adopted daughter, and before long, we see she truly loves them both. The fact that she is willing to take Max in also says something about her inner beauty. Hiding a Jew in her home is a dangerous decision, but she chooses life over safety.
