(The Book Thief) I have to write a paragraph on the following prompt: At the end of the novel, only one character survives the war. Why this character? what is the author trying to say about war and humanity?

This bothers me because at the end of the book Ilsa, Alex, possibly Max and Liesel survive. Im not sure if my teacher means the end as in part 10 because we have to write a paragraph on each part from the prologue to the epilogue and this is the question for the epilogue.
