Though it has been eight whole years, some people will still look here for answers. The goal of this section was to show the character development that Liesel went through. Refer back to when Death took Liesel's brother on the train. Liesel was crying and desperate for her mother to do something, but she did not. After being abandoned by her biological mother, she made relationships with Papa, Mama, Rudy, Frau, and Max (note "The Word Shaker" he gave to Liesel which symbolized their friendship). She became a friendly and strong young girl who was loved by many people. Plus, Liesel grew to lose her nightmare of her brother at the tip of my tongue. When she was at the site of the crash, she realized that the pilot was about to die. Instead of crying for him or feeling bad for him, she stared at Death even though she could not see him. She was used to this, but she was different now. She was no longer afraid of Death because she changed herself. She had people who loved her and she loved them too, so Death wasn't going to make her suffer anymore.

Of course, this was changed when 'the' bomb fell ;)
