What does Liesel realize in the end of the story?

Liesel actually lives past the war to "a very old age". Ironically much of what Leisel has learned is seen through the eyes of Death. Liesel has persevered past personal tragedy because she loves life. Perhaps her personal devastation has made her appreciate life even more than the "average" person. Death looks to Liesel for guidance on human nature. Death wants to know how humans can be so beautiful and hideous at the same time? What does this tell us about Liesel? I suspect it tells us that, by the end of the war, Liesel was beautiful both inside and out. By the end of the war Liesel had understood more about human nature than even the metaphysical.
