What does Walter give to Max? Why were these items important?

Walter gave Max traveling papers (a fake identity), a copy of Mein Kampf, and a key to Hans' home. He would need the false identity to travel unmolested by soldiers, the book would throw people off, and the keys to Hans' home would provide protection and shelter.
