What is the effect of having the movie narrated by Death?

I'm not sure about the movie, but Death's narration of the novel allow the readers to gain an outside perspective. Death provides us with Liesel's point of view, but he also provides us with information we wouldn't have if Liesel were the narrator. Death foreshadows and provides historical accuracy.... he gathers information and shares.
