What is ugly and beautiful about Hans hubermann

Death describes Hans; "To most people, Hans Hubermann is barely visible. An un-special person. Somehow......and I'm sure you've met people like this, he was able to appear as merely part of the background. He was always just there. Not noticeable."

Hans is a beautiful man because he is unselfish, full of love, humble, loyal, a lover of music, and completely giving. I can't think of an ugly adjective to attach to his name. You might consider some of his actions against the Nazis as ugliness, but I wouldn't do so.
