Why do you think Max Vendenberg was given that name (“The struggler”)? Explain your answer.

Max is a young Jew attempting to escape incarceration and death in Nazi Germany. He is alone and making a dangerous journey to what he hopes will be a place of safety and protection. Max struggles over the fact that he believes he's abandoned his family and put others in danger.
