Why do you think that Ilsa Hermann, the mayor's wife, invited Liesel into her library?

Ilsa felt sorry for Liesel, but more important than that.... she liked her. Ilsa, like many others in the novel is lonely. She lost her only son. Liesel provided company for short periods of time, and Ilsa wanted to share what she had..... her library.
