Why would Death inculde entries from the Duden Dictionary? What purpose do all of these entries seem to serve?

Death includes an excerpt from the Duden Dictionary to convey a lesson about happiness, how one word can mean so much. He and uses this word to reflect how Liesel feels during those precious moments that she spends with her Papa.
