In the book, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, our main character, Bruno, is completely innocent of the atrocities around him and completely honest in his desire to befriend Shmuel. Bruno doens't understand politics, war, or his father's job..... he just a child. His innocence, however, makes it difficult to understand his new friend or the conditions under which he is living. Their friendship grows amidst the contraints of a Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz..... a place filled with hunger, violence, and death. The boys' friendship reminds us all that innocence leads to peace..... that anyone can be friends.
