Kotler ties to keep the identity of his father a secret. During dinner, the conversation turns to Kotler's father. Kotler states that his father left Germany to move to Switzerland. Kotler desperatly wants to change the subject. It is alluded to that his father had "disagreements" with the Nazi government which is why he abandoned his family.
