Why is Lt. Kotler sent away? Is it in any way related to Bruno's father finding out about Kurt's father leaving Germany in the beginning of the war???

I think is because when they are having dinner at Out-With, Bruno's family, grandpa and Lt.Kotler, the Jewish (old man/maid whom always looks unhappy) accidently spill wine on the table and then Lt.Kotler pull him outside and start hitting the old man (until dead i think). Plus with his dad left the country before war that's why he got sent away.
