What are the "relics in my bale" that the Pardoner refers to? Are the relics real or fake? Explain why.

He has some relics in his sack. They are all fake, "I've some relics in my bale. And pardons too, as full and fine..." He claims they were given to him bu the Pope. THey are of course all worthless.
