The Canterbury Tales
The Friar What are a few examples which show how the Friar is an unethical member of the Church and which deadly sin might he represent?
The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales
The Friar is an immoral man concerned largely with profit rather than turning men away from sin. His tale is an attack on the wickedness of summoners. The Friar is a womanizer. He says that he has "maad many a mariage / of yonge wommen at his owene cost." He gives trinkets to young wives to earn their favor. He solicits donations from people that cannot afford it. The Friar routinely gives an easier penance to those that give him more money. I would think that "greed" represents his deadly sin.
