Catcher in the Rye

Holden is a narcissist. Although he is rebellious in certain ways, Holden's problems obviously stem from deeper issues than teenage hormones. He is isolated, incapable of sustaining a friendship..... depressed, and devoid of purpose. The only thing that gives Holden joy is taking on the persona of someone else. He finds a kind of satisfaction in living a life not his own.
