Uncle Axel is very much a rebel in this village. He does not conform to the very narrow view of religious conservativism demanded by the community. He questions if anybody can have the knowledge that God was made in the narrow image of human man and woman.
The writings by which the people in Waknuk refer to were written after Tribulation. That means that somebody made it up so that everything would be how he/she likes it. That also eans any person has the right to their life no matter what they look like. Everything in the novel is a lie.
