The second eldest of the sisters, Helen was the most artistic of the siblings. She grew to become a full-fledged hippie Helen represented the turbulent atmosphere of 1960's. She quit school rejecting what she called the "white man's education." This conflicted with Ruth's stipulation that all her kids must put education first. She also clashed with her sister Rosetta over values and ideals. At fifteen-years-old, Helen ran away from home.
