What was Andrew McBride’s (Dennis’) legacy?

Andrew McBride, whom Ruth described as a man with "vision", died before James was born. Dennis was a violinist, he was artistic and soft spoken. I think that James is developing many of those sensitive artistic qualities even though his father is dead.
