why ruth get attractive to black man

While growing up in the south as a Jewish person Ruth experienced great prejudice against her. She found that she had hatred in her home from her father who sexually abused her. In the classroom and community she experienced the same hatred from whites as black people experienced. Ruth had no one who accepted her except for black people.

Ruth had never been asked on a date until her first boyfriend when she was 16 was a young black male. He had been the first male who was kind to her. Ruth never dated a black person because she felt low self esteem she stated in the book. She liked black men because they were kind and easy going. THere is also the sense of rebellion against her father.
