The Poems of William Blake
What does this quotation show 'Dear mother, dear mother' (except for help)?

The Little Vagabond at first seems to be nothing more than a lighthearted poem. If we take the time to look deeper, however, we come to the realization that the child is making an important point.... that worship should not be a trial, but rather, a pleasure. The child is homeless, living in the street, and for him, the church is seen as hypocritical. In addition, Blake's repetitive use of "Dear Mother, dear Mother" is reminiscent of a child's call for help.
