My opinion? No, revenge is never the answer. It costs more than you lost in the first place and takes you down to the level of those who hurt you.

Sure, otherwise there would be no more story. Still The Abbe does warn Edmund that revenge will eat him inside so, from a practical side, it would hurt him in the long run.
