The Count of Monte Cristo

In the beginning, the CMC was helpful and friendly to Albert. Is this true?

In the begging the CMC was helpful and friendly to Albert.
When does the Count change and why should he be ready to kill him and vice versa?

Initially Albert is rather a spoiled headstrong brat. At first he challenges the Count to a duel, however, his mother relates to him the truth, after which he apologizes to the Count. As Albert matures and shows honor, the Count likes him better.

Thanks!
