1) Calvacanti escapes from Paris.

2) Brigadiers show up the following morning, and despite Calvacanti's maneuvering, he is apprehended. As he escapes down through a chimney he ends up in the very same room that Eugenie and Louise are staying in. Louise thus rings a bell summoning the brigadiers.
