The Crucible
How does Abigail first react when Danforth asks her to deny Proctor's accusations?
Act 3
Act 3
She acts as if she is insulted by his accusations. How could he consider that she might be lying when he has seen her wounds. She then threatens to leave the court and let Salem reek in its "witchcraft" while she goes on to show others what a good, saintly woman she is. She is angry and never does answer the question she asks. She essentially reacts with a "defense" which is the best offense. Finally, she begins to act as if she is again being witched.
