The Crucible
How does the crucible RELATE to NOT belonging?
I understand that this play is all related to belonging. But what aspects relate NOT belonging
I understand that this play is all related to belonging. But what aspects relate NOT belonging
I think we see John Proctor as not belonging in the sense that he is not taken in by Parris' brand of Puritanism and does not wish to belong to the kind of church that Parris tries to lead. In one sense Abby does not belong either since she wants to be with John in what is clearly an illicit relationship in her society. She cares nothing for the values of Parris and the church he represents; she wants what she wants and that is all she cares about. The other type of not belonging happens when the girls pretend that Mary Warren is witching them; if she does not give in, she is no longer a part of the girl group.
