How would citation of the Bible weight or discredit opinions

I not sure how to answer this related to the Crucible except to note that understanding and use of the Bible can be both positive and negative. On the one hand, Puritans believed that witches could use the Bible to support an evil outcome by acting for the devil. On the other hand, the Bible and its quotes would definitely give credence to someone who was already viewed with some certainty.
