John doesn't want to hear those things that Elizabeth will not leave in the past. He wants their marriage to move forward, as he's confessed his sin and asked her forgiveness. "Spare me," is Jogn's way of saying, "Are you going to hold this against me forever?" The "everlasting funeral" is the end of their marriage and the death of love.
