Elizabeth, like the other women, is without fault. She is a victim of lies, accusation, and hysteria. None-the-less, unlike the other women, she is Proctor's wife, and he and Elizabeth both know that the one who accused her has done so as an act of revenge. This complicates the plot because ir directly affects Proctor's home and family.
