Parris tells Danforth, "You cannot hang this sort". What does he mean?

Parris knows that John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse are too respected in the community to be hanged. He fears retribution from the town. He says that these two people are not like the others who were hanged. There might well be a mutiny against the court, and himself, should they hang.
